Position

Band 6 Paediatric Deputy Charge Nurse – Emergency Department, central London teaching hospital.


Location

Emergency Department, central London teaching hospital.


Responsibilities

* Lead the nursing staff during shifts, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
* Supervise and manage the nursing team, working in partnership with the Consultant in Charge.
* Support senior nurses and charge nurses in maintaining quality of care and meeting performance against Care Quality Indicators (CQIs).
* Ensure educational needs of the ED are met, including mentoring and precepting student nurses.
* Assist in the coordination of the ED response during major incidents (MAJAX).
* Act as a deputy for ward organization and management, providing leadership in the absence of the senior sister/charge nurse.
* Promote and implement the Trust’s Nursing & Midwifery strategy and Core Standards.
* Develop and implement audit, quality and risk-management initiatives.
* Teach, facilitate, mentor and precept student nurses, participating in clinical supervision programmes.

* Communication – maintain effective communication, convey complex information and ensure patient documentation accuracy.
* Personal and People Development – educate patients and carers, participate in appraisals and staff development, act as a pre-mentor.
* Health, Safety and Security – ensure a safe environment, adhere to Trust policies and manage risks.
* Service Improvement – develop and monitor nursing practice standards, deliver evidence-based care.
* Quality – maintain a safe environment, participate in quality audits, handle complaints per Trust policy.
* Equality and Diversity – act in accordance with the Trust’s Equal Opportunity policy.
* Care Planning – ensure appropriate care plans, coordinate discharge arrangements and supervise junior staff.
* Information Processing – use electronic patient records and ensure accurate data collection.
* Learning and Development – assist with staff induction, establish clinical supervision and contribute to a learning environment.
* Financial Management – manage resources, ensure appropriate staffing and prudent use of bank and agency staff.
* People Management – provide nursing leadership, supervise team members, participate in recruitment and appraisal processes.
