We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our Fleet Services team as a Fleet Technician. Fleet Services is part of the Environment and Regeneration Directorate, responsible for maintaining a diverse fleet of light and heavy vehicles and plant, including zero-emission (full electric and hybrid) assets. Our team is committed to keeping frontline services moving and supporting the Authority&s operational needs.
The post is full time and permanent, salary rate is Grade 7 (NJC) with enhancements for contracted Saturday hours and on-call rota (discussed at interview).
As a Fleet Technician, you will provide mechanical and electronic technician support across the Authority&s fleet. You&ll carry out servicing, diagnostics, repairs, statutory inspections, and help ensure our vehicles and equipment are safe and reliable.
Your daily routine will include:
1. Servicing, diagnosing, and repairing faults on cars, light commercial vehicles, HGVs, buses/PCVs, and plant (including EVs and hybrids).
2. Conducting electronic and electrical diagnostics using multi-brand computerised diagnostic equipment.
3. Performing DVSA MOT testing for Classes 4, 5, and 7 at the Authority&s approved test station.
4. Carrying out preventative maintenance, safety checks, and statutory inspections.
5. Attending breakdowns and performing roadside repairs or arranging recovery.
6. Carry out LOLER testing and certification; operate and maintain workshop lifting equipment; training provided if required.
7. Undertake taxi (hackney carriage/private hire) inspections to national standards and suspend licences where required.
8. Install and maintain vehicle tracking and radio communication systems.
9. Recording all work using job cards, inspection forms, and tablet-based fleet management systems.

Do you have:
10. A time-served apprenticeship and NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (Level 2 candidates will be supported to upskill).
11. Level 3 qualification for repair/maintenance of electric and hybrid vehicles.
12. Experience of working on Municipal vehicles and their electrical systems (desirable).
13. Practical post-apprenticeship experience across heavy, light vehicles and plant, including preparing vehicles to MOT standard.
14. Knowledge of H&S regulations and safe working practices; ability to follow DVSA standards.
15. Ability to communicate effectively, work independently and as part of a team, and maintain accurate records.
16. Full car driving licence (LGV Class C desirable).
17. Willingness to work shifts, alternate Saturdays, and participate in standby/call-out.
