Health Care Support Worker - Band 3 - 24hrs pw
The Minor Injury Unit is a busy nurse‑led urgent care setting. If you are looking for a new challenge and have a passion for emergency care, this is the role for you. We need an enthusiastic, compassionate and highly motivated person who works well under pressure to join our friendly team. All training will be provided.
The Minor Injury Unit operates 08:00‑22:00. Shift patterns are 07:30‑20:00 and 10:00‑22:30. Please apply only if you can meet the shift requirements.

Main Duties
* Put patients first.
* Work as part of a team with Emergency Nurse Practitioners.
* Perform clerical duties.
* Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
Clinical Learning
* Wound closure.
* Applying plaster casts.
* Dressings.
* Completing NEWS2 and PEWS scores to identify the seriously sick or injured person and following the escalation process.
* Eye washouts.
Healthcare support workers are the glue within the unit, supporting qualified nurses with patient assessment and treatment and assisting the receptionist with clerical duties. Teamwork and good communication are key to delivering the best outcomes for all patients, both adults and children.

Job Description
Location / Department: Kidderminster Treatment Centre / Minor Injury Unit
Accountable to: Ward Manager
Reports to: Ward Manager / Nurse in Charge
Key Working Relationships: Emergency Nurse Practitioners, Healthcare support workers and receptionist.
Risk Assessment:
* Manual handling of patients.
* Assistance in housekeeping duties.
* Computer skills.
* Basic life support.
Job Purpose: The holder will:

Key Duties:
* Delivery of individualised nursing care under direction of senior staff.
* Undertake clinical procedures following competency assessment under direct supervision of Emergency Nurse Practitioners.
* Carry out delegated nursing care including observations of patients/clients.
* Adhere to all trust policies and procedures.
* Report and communicate effectively with other staff members, patients and relatives.
* Ensure confidentiality, dignity, privacy and respect for patients at all times.
* Assist and participate in activities to meet the occupational needs of patients.
Administrative:
* Provide reception and clerical support within the Minor Injury Unit.
General Duties:
* Combine reception/clerical responsibilities with delivering safe, effective nursing care within their competency range.
* Display a courteous attitude to patients, relatives, visitors and other staff at all times.
* Liaise effectively with other members of the multi‑disciplinary team as appropriate.
* Ensure that the Nurse in Charge or Ward Manager is aware of any changes in the ward physical environment.
* Ensure all communication is effective, clear and precise.
Person Specification
Experience – Essential:
* Working with adults and children in an Emergency, Urgent Care or Minor Injury Unit setting.
* Any acute hospital setting.
Experience – Desirable:
* Nursing experience within the NHS/hospital setting.
* Urgent Care or Minor Injury Unit experience.
Qualifications – Essential:
* A good standard of general education to GCSE level.
* Will be expected to undertake The Care Certificate course and achieve the standards within 12 weeks of commencing employment with the trust.
Qualifications – Desirable:
* Care Certificate Course.
* Qualification in care.
