We are looking for a highly motivated senior nurse who wishes to progress their career within a forward-thinking directorate, clinical group, and organisation.
Integrated Local Services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
The post holder is accountable to the Head of Nursing and Clinical Director and working in partnership with colleagues in the directorate management team (including the other Head of Nursing post) to ensure the directorate delivers on its objectives across a range of clinical services. They are responsible for providing the directorate nursing leadership on a range of initiatives within an exciting time with care closer to home.
Main duties of the job
The Head of Nursing provides strategic, professional and operational nursing leadership across the Directorate through effective role modelling. The post holder is accountable for delivery of timely, safe, high quality, cost effective nursing patient care within budget constraints. They provide strong leadership to enable services to respond effectively to the challenges it will face whilst providing efficient clinical services and sustained improvements.
As a member of the Senior Nursing Team, the post holder will also be responsible for delivering on Directorate and Clinical Group nursing initiatives. The Head of Nursing also plays an important role within the directorate leadership team they are expected to identify and implement a strategy for nursing practice, research and education as well as work closely with internal and external stakeholders.
Working for our organisation
Guy’s and St Thomas’ have developed a Group Operating Model with the formation of four clinical groups, each led by a CEO and a clinical group executive team which enables senior decision making closer to the front line. The Integrated And Specialist Medicine Clinical Group was formed in April 2022 and operates with a budget of over £500m and a workforce of more than 8,000 people. It oversees over 100 Services in inpatient, outpatient and community settings, and handles over patient contacts annually. The Clinical Group comprises eight Directorates:
1. Acute General Medicine (AGM)
2. Urgent & Emergency Care (UEC)
3. Clinical Imaging and Medical Physics (CLIMP)
4. Dental
5. Integrated Local Services (ILS)
6. Specialist Ambulatory and Medical Specialties (SAMS)
7. Pharmacy
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post-holder will work with a range of internal and external stakeholders to promote integration, consistency and innovation in service delivery. Regular reporting and communication with the Director of Nursing, Clinical Director and senior Executive team and external partners will ensure transparency, strengthen stakeholder relationships and support continuous performance improvement.
