Position Overview The Fire Door Surveyor will be responsible for undertaking comprehensive inspections of fire doors and associated components across a range of building types. You will assess compliance with relevant fire safety legislation and British Standards, identifying defects, breaches, or maintenance requirements. Your reports will play a vital role in informing client decisions, remedial strategies, and long-term fire safety planning. You'll be expected to work independently and confidently within live environments, maintaining professionalism and accuracy under pressure. The ideal candidate will be meticulous, technically proficient, and have a strong understanding of fire door systems, materials, and third-party certification. Key Responsibilities Conduct methodical and detailed inspections of fire doors. Accurately identify non-conformities and installation defects and categorise required remedial works according to risk and severity. Produce high-quality, photographic survey reports using digital platforms, ensuring clarity, compliance references, and actionable findings. Liaise with internal project managers, site supervisors, and client representatives to coordinate access, schedule surveys, and provide technical feedback. Advise clients on best practices for remedial works, replacement, and ongoing fire door maintenance strategies. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, fire safety standards, and emerging industry developments. Ensure all survey activity is undertaken in line with internal quality management system and third-party accreditation requirements. Provide support to the wider fire protection team in QA reviews, post-installation inspections, and pre-construction validations where required. Essential Criteria: Experience in fire door surveying or fire compliance inspections. Recognised fire door inspection certification (e.g. FDIS Certified Inspector, BM TRADA Q-Mark Fire Door Inspector, or equivalent). Strong working knowledge of fire door design, installation standards, and lifecycle compliance requirements. Demonstrable ability to produce accurate, comprehensive, and well-structured survey reports. Experience working in live environments with sensitivity to the needs of residents, patients, or service users. Self-motivated, reliable, and able to manage workload independently across multiple sites. Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel nationally (occasional overnight stays may be required). Desirable Criteria: Experience with compliance or asset management software. Additional qualifications or experience in fire-stopping, compartmentation, or passive fire protection management.
