Job Description
SP Industries is looking to hire a Depot Service Engineer (Centre of Excellence) based in Ipswich.
This is a key position within the Global Service Centre of Excellence (COE) team. Your place of work will be at the Ipswich facility and UK customer sites (70 / 30 split respectively), however international travel is expected. The role is highly dependent on the individual's ability to react to service requirements quickly and effectively and provide technical support to clients both remotely and on-site.
After training, the successful candidate will have basic knowledge of the build and test processes of the complete range of SP products manufactured at the Ipswich facility, and will be expected to diagnose system issues, fault‑find, repair, and maintain SP products. The job will involve system installations, commissioning, and regular preventive maintenance.
Key Tasks
* Assembly and test of mechanical and electrical sub-systems and spare component assemblies in line with customer demand.
* Testing of mechanical and electrical assemblies to ensure that products meet quality standards.
* Fault diagnosis and correction, including completion of evaluation and repair reports.
* In-process quality inspection/testing of material and products, including maintaining quality records for ISO 9001 accreditation.
* Equipment installation and commissioning if required.
* Preventative maintenance and repair on ATS Scientific Products equipment.
* Own coordination of all service equipment requiring calibration.
* Own housekeeping and 5S of the service repair centre.
* Provide feedback on all depot and field-based activities and customer communication.
* Contribute to creation and maintenance of service documentation, processes, workflows, and training content/programs.
* Manage personal inventory as allocated.
* Lead/problem‑solve events related to product and service delivery and quality; training in problem solving via the ABM program is required.
* Contribution to Kaizen events to maintain departmental efficiency.
Essential Skills
* Full UK driver’s licence.
* Mechanical ability.
* FGas certified.
* Practical hands‑on skills: building, repairing, creating with hands.
* Quality awareness with problem‑solving skills.
* Great customer‑facing skills.
* Computer literate and able to write and communicate in English.
* Data‑driven, able to manage analytics in Excel.
* Practical knowledge of production manufacturing industry.
* Excellent eye for detail.
* Team player with ability to work with and motivate colleagues.
* Capable of multitasking with flexible thinking.
Ideal Experience
* Mechanical assembly within a light engineering environment.
* Machine shop experience.
* Brazing and soldering skills.
* Lean manufacturing experience.
* Manual handling.
* Knowledge of Health and Safety at work.
* Reading engineering drawings and basic electrical understanding.
Ideal Qualifications
* HND (or higher) in mechanical/electrical applications, principles, and practices.
* Manual lifting course.
