Role Purpose
Justice Social Work, Scottish Borders Council are excited to advertise a new and innovative post. The Project Coordinator, Greenhouse, builds upon the already established unpaid work greenhouse project at Eastlands Cemetry, Galashiels, which has for a number of years worked in partnership with NHS Borders and community groups to grow and provide fresh produce to a range of organisations and individuals, promoting access to healthy eating and meeting the council's sustainability and environmental goals. It is in recognition of the success of this project that we have decided to expand it and develop a specific greenhouse coordinator post.
The post holder will build on the already established project to enable other Justice service users to access volunteering opportunities; the greenhouse will move from a 2 day a week to a 5 day project, improving the accessibility to others within the Justice Service (CPO supervision, throughcare, early intervention) and providing more time to develop partnership working across other community groups. The post holder will be responsible for one other 17.5 hour post, providing direction and supervision. They will be managed by a Senior Social Worker and expected to adhere to the value base of the Justice Service - working with a range of individuals often with complex needs and trauma backgrounds. They will be responsible for the daily operation of the greenhouse, buildings, machinery, tools equipment and safe systems of work, ensuring up to date health and safety risk assessments. They will attend team meetings, work closely with the unpaid work service and maintain the administrative and information management systems required to ensure the effective operation and performance management of the project.
As this is a new post, created from the Project Coordinator, Unpaid Work, it is being advertised as a WEPE band A but this will be reviewed upon appointment.
