The RSPCA branches rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals at risk through clinics, animal centres, boarding, and fostering facilities. They also provide advice, education on animal welfare, and support microchipping, neutering, and subsidised treatments for financially struggling pet owners.
Each branch (approximately 155 across England and Wales) operates as a separate registered charity, responsible for about 78% of rehoming activities in 2020, caring for over 31,000 animals. The RSPCA, founded in 1824, is the oldest animal welfare charity.
