Youth Offending Service Officer

Location: Station Road, Ilford, Greater London, IG6 1NB
Contract: 6 months fixed term with potential extension
Pay Rate: £34.22 LTD per hour (paid weekly via umbrella company)
Start Date: 28th November

About the Role:

As an Youth Offending Service Officer you will be working at the frontline of youth justice. You’ll manage a caseload of children and young people who are subject to out?of?court disposals and statutory court orders. You’ll operate in line with the National Standards for Youth Justice and the Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation (HMIP) Inspection Framework.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage a caseload of youth justice cases—including out?of?court disposals and statutory court orders—in line with national standards and the Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation (HMIP) Inspection Framework.

Adopt a “Child First, Offender Second” approach to support children and young people to successfully complete their orders/disposals and live a crime?free life.

Communicate effectively with children and young people, their families, and relevant internal and external partners to secure the best outcomes.

Ensure equality of opportunity and anti?discriminatory practice across all areas of work.

Use AssetPlus as the assessment and planning tool for case management, with a specific focus on trauma?informed practice, building foundations for change and desistance, to help children and young people refrain from offending and re?offending.

Work collaboratively with children and young people, their families and partner agencies to deliver effective, evidence?based individual and/or group interventions/programmes that reduce risk of offending/re?offending and disengagement from education, employment and training.

Prepare Pre?Sentence Reports or Stand?Down Reports for the Court, and Panel Reports for Referral Order Panels and other forums as required.

Represent the Youth Justice Service (YJTPS) and present information to courts.

Provide effective engagement and deliver interventions based on assessment analysis to keep children/young people safe and keep others safe.

Essential skills and experience:

Qualified Social Worker (registered) or equivalent social?care qualification.

Proven experience of case?managing youth justice cases (out?of?court disposals and statutory orders).

Competent use of assessment and planning tools (e.g., AssetPlus) with focus on trauma?informed and desistance practice.

Excellent report?writing skills and ability to present in court/panel settings.

Strong knowledge of youth justice standards, legislation, risk frameworks, safeguarding and multi?agency working.

Excellent communication skills – able to engage young people, families and partners; able to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries.

Commitment to equality, diversity and anti?discriminatory practice.

Strong organisational, administrative and IT skills; ability to manage a caseload, prioritise work, meet deadlines.

Resilient, flexible, able to work under pressure in a demanding environment; ability to adapt to change and maintain professional practice.

Motivated to promote positive change for children and young people, adopt a child?first approach and work collaboratively.
