Calderdale Council is seeking a SEND Specialist Resources Technician to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) by providing specialist resources, equipment, and assistive technology that enable access to education and improve communication, independence, and learning outcomes.
The role involves working closely with schools, families, Speech and Language Therapists, SEND professionals, and other education, health, and care services to assess, manage, maintain, and promote the effective use of specialist resources, Assistive Technology (AT), and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) equipment across the borough.
Main Duties:
1. Maintain, develop, and support specialist technology, software, equipment, and resources for children and young people with SEND
2. Provide and produce educational materials including Braille, large print resources, diagrams, curriculum materials, and other accessible learning resources
3. Support the assessment, procurement, maintenance, and review of specialist SEND equipment and resources
4. Manage the storage, maintenance, inventory, and loan system for specialist resources and equipment
5. Provide demonstrations, guidance, and training to children, families, schools, and professionals on the effective use of specialist resources and technology
6. Work collaboratively with SEND Specialist Officers, Teachers, Coordinators, Speech and Language Therapists, and other professionals to support individual needs
7. Produce and edit digital resources, presentations, guidance materials, newsletters, brochures, and website content as required
8. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of equipment and resources, making recommendations for improvements where appropriate
9. Keep up to date with developments in Assistive Technology (AT), Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and wider SEND resources
10. Maintain accurate records, resource inventories, and data systems in line with service requirements
11. Support children and young people with complex communication and learning needs to access appropriate resources and interventions
12. Promote inclusion and positive outcomes for children and young people with SEND across educational settings
13. Ensure all work is completed in line with SEND legislation, council policies, safeguarding responsibilities, and professional standards
Requirements:
14. Level 3 qualification or above (e.g. A-Level, NVQ Level 3, Advanced Apprenticeship) or equivalent
15. Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes
16. Experience supporting children and young people with SEND, particularly those with communication, learning, or complex needs
17. Knowledge of Assistive Technology (AT), Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), or specialist SEND resources
18. Experience working within educational settings, specialist provisions, SEND services, or related environments
19. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with families, schools, and multidisciplinary professionals
20. Good IT skills and experience maintaining records, inventories, and resource management systems
21. Understanding of SEND legislation including the SEND Code of Practice, Children and Families Act 2014, and Equality Act 2010
22. Experience working alongside Speech and Language Therapists, SEND professionals, or specialist support services is desirable
23. Braille, visual impairment, AAC, or SEND-specific qualifications would be advantageous
