If so, we are looking for a passionate Social Worker to join the Contact, Advice & Assessment (Front Door) Team in West Berkshire.
Job Purpose
Provide professional, comprehensive casework to a caseload of children and young people, ensuring the highest professional standards and in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and practice methods.
Deliver quality services aligned with government and local guidance, including Working Together to Safeguard Children, Child Protection Procedures, Looked After Children’s Processes, The Assessment Framework, and the Common Assessment Framework.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provide efficient and effective support to children, young people, and their families, ensuring professional assessment of their needs.
* Investigate, evaluate, and analyse case information to provide clear assessments, reliable conclusions, and realistic action plans with accurate and evidence-based recordings.
* Develop a holistic practice approach, considering the individual within their immediate and extended social circles while addressing overall developmental needs.
* Compliance and Reporting
* Ensure all case management complies with statutory requirements and Council policies and procedures.
* Prepare and submit professional written reports, including statements and care plans, for care proceedings in Family Proceedings, County, and High Courts.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records using ICT systems, adhering to key performance management data requirements.
* Communication and Liaison
* Actively liaise and work in partnership with other agencies, organisations, parents, and carers to ensure a coordinated approach.
* Promote the involvement of children, young people, and families in service development and decision-making.
* Attend conferences, reviews, and court proceedings as required, representing the Council’s plans and perspectives with professionalism and integrity.
* Team Responsibilities
* Keep the Assistant/Team Manager fully informed of workload challenges, seeking advice as needed.
* Serve as the duty worker for the team when appropriate, responding to queries and emerging issues promptly.
* Equality and Safety

* Adhere to WBC’s health and safety policies and practices, taking reasonable care of personal and others’ safety.

* Follow the standards outlined in the WBC competency framework, ensuring consistent professional growth and performance.
Requirement of the Social Worker:
* Qualifications: A recognised Social Work degree (e.g., BA/MA in Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent)
* Registration: Current registration with Social Work England
* Experience: Previous experience in children’s services, particularly in assessment, intervention, or safeguarding roles
* Knowledge: A strong understanding of UK child protection legislation, safeguarding procedures, and relevant frameworks for assessment and intervention
* Skills: Excellent communication, assessment, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage complex cases and work effectively under pressure
* Other: A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes are desirable
