Tax & External Reporting Accountant
Location: Weybridge, UK
As a Tax and External Reporting Accountant at Sony Europe, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely tax reporting and compliance for the European Electronics and Sports business. You’ll take ownership of preparing local country financial statements and tax returns, working closely with Group Reporting, Global Tax, local business teams, and external providers.
You’ll be part of a strong performing & collaborative External Reporting team that shares responsibilities, rotates entities, and supports each other to build knowledge and flexibility. Together, we drive simplification and standardisation across the region while ensuring compliance with local statutory, legal, and tax requirements.
Beyond day-to-day reporting, you’ll have the opportunity to dive into various projects that improve processes and systems, helping us achieve greater efficiency and consistency across multiple entities!
You will:
1. Lead preparation and submission of statutory accounts, tax packs, and tax returns for designated European entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
2. Be the go-to expert for tax reporting and compliance across SEU/SEL and Sports business entities, as well as statutory accounting for designated GFA entities. Acting as a trusted advisor to the Finance team, you’ll ensure all reporting is accurate, timely, and compliant.
3. Oversee our external partner and all aspects of tax compliance, including reporting, transfer pricing, corporate and deferred tax positions, tax losses/credits, and timely tax payments.
4. Drive process and system improvements to enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy, including supporting system implementations.
5. Coordinate and manage external providers and support local tax audits in collaboration with the Global Tax Office.
6. Collect, validate, and deliver accurate tax and financial data, including adjustments required to meet local statutory requirements.
7. Provide proactive finance and tax guidance to internal stakeholders and act as a key liaison across Group Reporting, Global Tax, and local business teams.

8. Demonstrable significant tax compliance and reporting experience in a multi-company/entity environment
9. Ability to simplify technical tax concepts and provide training and coaching, for improved understanding by team members without tax expertise.
10. If not qualified already, the ambition to become a fully qualified accountant (we can provide study support)
11. Strong communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
12. Excellent organisation skills and focus on critical deadlines.

13. Experience & knowledge of SAP ERP system
14. Experience of operating within a global virtual team
