We are a small but innovative company building connected hardware and software systems. Our developers (firmware, backend, frontend) and operations team (customer lead focus) are strong individually. The company needs a cross-functional leadership role individual.
What you'll be doing day-to-day:
Technical Leadership
* Meet with firmware, backend, and frontend developers to review progress and unblock issues.
* Challenge and support devs with architecture/design choices (without coding yourself).
* Ensure bugs are reproducible, documented, and tracked until solved — no dead ends.
* Simplify technical solutions where possible (save time/cost, avoid "Frankenstein fixes").
Operations & Manufacturing Support
* Work alongside the Operations Manager to monitor stock, suppliers, and manufacturing.
* Manage accountability of the people responsible — chase, question, and support them to meet deadlines.
* Step in with alternatives when parts or suppliers cause delays (research or guide the team to options).
* Provide the CEO with quick summaries of operational bottlenecks and progress.
Customer & Commercial Support
* Prepare and deliver product demonstrations for customers (with Ops/Account Manager).
* Translate technical details into customer-friendly explanations.
* Provide feedback from customers to the technical team so priorities are aligned.
* Support the Account Manager with technical queries that need clear, credible answers.
Reporting & Alignment
* Produce a short weekly report for the CEO/commercial team highlighting risks, progress, and decisions made.
* Keep communication flowing smoothly between technical, operational, and commercial sides.
What you won't be doing:
* Writing day-to-day code or designing hardware.
* Managing payroll or HR.
* Running production/stock tasks yourself — you manage the people responsible.
What we're looking for:
* Background in embedded systems (C/firmware) + good grasp of backend/frontend environments.
* Experience in small-company or start-up settings, where you wear multiple hats.
* Confident presenting technical products to customers.
* Strong operational awareness (stock, suppliers, manufacturing).
* Pragmatic, resourceful, and outcome-driven — "failure is not an option" mindset.
Salary / Pay
* £25k–£35k pro-rata (based on ~20 hrs/week).
* Equivalent to ~£50k–£75k full-time salary.
