Job Title: CAD/CAM Programmer & Estimator
Role Summary:
The Estimator & CAD/CAM Programmer will play a critical role in bridging customer requirements with internal engineering and production processes. This dual-focused role involves preparing accurate cost estimates and quotations, along with producing CAD/CAM programs for laser cutting and CNC folding operations. It is ideally suited to candidates with experience in sheet metal or sub-contract manufacturing and strong technical drawing and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare cost estimates and engineering proposals based on customer enquiries, drawings, and specifications.
Generate accurate CAD/CAM programs for laser cutting and CNC folding using industry-standard software.
Produce and modify 2D and 3D technical drawings in support of production and quoting processes.
Interpret customer drawings and requirements to ensure feasibility and manufacturability.
Liaise directly with customers, providing technical support and ensuring prompt, accurate responses to enquiries.
Collaborate with internal teams including sales, production, and design to ensure alignment of technical and commercial objectives.
Maintain compliance with all health, safety, and quality standards.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in productivity, efficiency, and product quality.
Essential Requirements:
Proven experience in a technical estimating and/or CAD/CAM programming role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Strong knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes, including laser cutting and CNC folding would be beneficial.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g. SolidWorks or similar). Experience with nesting software such as Radan, Sigmanest, or Lantek is highly desirable.
Experience working in a customer-facing technical support or sales engineering role.
Ability to read, interpret, and work from technical drawings and 3D models.
Qualifications:
GCSE's
NVQ Level 3 or above in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline.

Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Commercial awareness and understanding of cost structures and manufacturing efficiency.
