Senior Environmental Sustainability Advisor

As a Senior Sustainability Advisor, you will provide direction, support, and guidance on environmental management across all project stages, ensuring legal and company standards are met and fostering a culture of continual improvement. The role supports site‑based project design, construction controls, mitigation measures, sustainability opportunities, and client‑led contractual requirements to achieve our strategic goals. Key responsibilities include engagement with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors, and environmental authorities.
What you’ll be doing
The role reports directly to the ES Manager ECU and works with project directors, managers, engineers, commercial and procurement within the Power Business Unit, and collaborates with ES roles across other Strategic BUs.
* Complete, review, and update company environmental documentation, deliver sustainability projects, and manage environmental risks and opportunities.
* Produce and maintain permitting and licensing requirements for specific projects.
* Fully interpret policy, regulation, and legislation across the portfolio, providing visible ES support.
* Support high‑level/value/complex projects from feasibility to post‑construction with the backing of your E&S Team colleagues.
* Support standalone projects from feasibility to post‑construction.
* Conduct regular site inspections, including those with client or regulatory representatives.
Who we’re looking for
* Full driving licence and flexibility to travel.
* Professional membership of a relevant body (IEMA, CIEEM, CIWEM) or equivalent experience and competence.
* Good knowledge of environmental management with relevant construction experience.
* Practical experience and sound knowledge of statutory environmental requirements, including legislation, ecology mitigation, licensing, consent applications, and regulation.
* Experience overseeing, developing, and directing graduate ES roles within your portfolio.
* Understanding of the benefits of collaborative working to achieve the best outcome.
* Required to visit worksites and offices across Scotland and attend occasional ES meetings across the UK.
