Job overview

This position is for an individual to work within the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Clinical Haematology service to cover maternity leave. The post is 8PAs for 12 months and will form an essential part of the Immune Haematology and Red Cell service on the Hammersmith Hospital site, with the opportunity to develop a specialist area of interest in immune haematology within the role.

This successful candidate will join a team of eight consultants who support the inpatient and outpatient care of patients with non-malignant haematological disorders within the Immune Haematology and Red Cell service.The post is based primarily at Hammersmith Hospital with one clinic per week at St Mary’s Hospital and consultative responsibilities across the Trust and carries a one-in-seven inpatient attending and non-resident on-call commitment including weekends.The post will primarily support the rapidly expanding clinical service for patients with immune haematological disorders led by Professor Nichola Cooper as well as providing support for the haemoglobinopathy and red cell service.

Applicants that are UK trained, must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will support the inpatient and outpatient care of haematological malignancy patients within the White Cell service, and in particular those with lymphoma. The post holder is expected to have a specialist interest in this area, and experience in stem cell transplantation and CAR-T would be advantageous.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder must be medically qualified, maintain GMC specialist registration and develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties of the post.

Clinical components:

·OPD clinics including immune haematology and general haematology clinics

1. Attending duties – currently providing clinical input for patients with immune haematology and red cell conditions
2. On-Call
3. Immune haematology and red cell MDT Meetings
4. GP advice & guidance

Education components-The post holder will contribute to the teaching programmes for medical undergraduates and Haematology and Transfusion Medicine Specialty Registrars preparing for the part I and part II of the FRCPath examination, including visitors from overseas

Research components- The post holder will be expected and be supported to develop research initiatives, appropriate to previous experience and complementary to those programmes that exist within the wider research framework of the directorate and Trust. This will include identifying patients and consenting them for existing clinical trials in immune haematology and encouraging new clinical trials to be developed and contributing to the laboratory research team. Excellent research opportunities are available throughout the Trust and with Imperial College London.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

5. Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
6. Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
7. MRCP AND FRCPath or equivalent

Knowledge & Skills

8. Specialist training in clinical haematology
9. Experience in the management of patients with non-malignant haematological disorders, including autoimmune cytopenias
10. IT skills and computer literacy

12. Have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing, and managing the performance of colleagues.
