Job Summary
We are looking for your next step within Acute Medicine. This Acute Medicine position is to support the increased expansion and development of our Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) and Acute Medical Units (AMU – McGill) at Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH). The successful candidate will work in the Acute Medical Unit, providing a wide breadth of acute medicine experience in this consultant‑led area. The role offers an excellent opportunity to strengthen clinical acumen, diagnostic and practical skills with real‑time consultant feedback and supervision. It also provides dedicated time to help run AMU teaching, simulation training, mock Paces, regular Paces exams, medical student‑programmed teaching and virtual on‑call training.

Job Responsibilities
* Patient assessment and patient reviews
* Clerk and post‑take administration; writing in patient notes
* Promptly update patient systems
* Attend acute medicine clinics and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
* Facilitate daily board rounds with MDT
* Triage patients to appropriate medical teams or acute physicians
* Participate in ward rounds
* Liaise with patient families to discuss progress, goals and achievable outcomes
* Respect patients’ rights to reach decisions about treatment, care and discharge destinations
Person Specification
Essential
* MBBS or equivalent
* Full GMC registration
* MRCP Part 1 and Part 2
* Management of Acute Adult Medical Admission at SpR level or ST2
* Basic Life Support
* Clinical knowledge and expertise; ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
* Research skills; understanding of audit and research importance
* Communication skills – capacity to adapt to languages
* Ability to organise and prioritise busy workloads, work under pressure and on an on‑call rota shift system
* Computer literate
Desirable
* Evidence of continuing professional updating
* Advanced Life Support
* MRCP
* Prior NHS experience within the last 6 months
* Evidence of academic and research achievements (e.g., prizes, awards, distinctions, presentations or publications)
