We believe that our strength is not just in our steel but the diversity of our workforce. Our people make the difference. What you will do As a Project Construction Engineer, you’ll be the vital link between our project engineering teams and the safe, high-quality execution of work on site. From issuing permits and safety paperwork, to planning daily activity and driving progress, you’ll ensure that what we build is built right – first time, safely, and efficiently. This role involves daily liaison with contractors, planners, schedulers and SHE professionals, providing technical guidance and setting the tone for best practice on site. You’ll be a visible leader, conducting process confirmations, upholding high safety standards, and ensuring all work is delivered in line with project scope and schedule. Your responsibilities will include: Planning, supervising and coordinating daily site installation activities in collaboration with planners, schedulers, and contractors. Leading by example on safety, including carrying out regular process confirmations. Issuing work permits and safety documentation such as Permit to Work, Hot Work Certificates, Atmospheric Tests, and Access permits. Troubleshooting issues on site and escalating any risks or delays as appropriate. Ensuring all work complies with health, safety, and environmental standards. Contributing to formal risk assessments, HAZOPs, and FMEAs. Representing the area in discussions with project teams and contractors. Providing support for project-related activities outside of normal working hours during shutdowns, improvement works, or emergency situations. Oversee logistics, including inspection of deliveries, verification of materials, and coordination with suppliers and contractors. Prepare daily, weekly and monthly site progress reports as per project requirements. Monitoring quality of work, undertaking installation standards audits and ensuring compliance with codes and standards. Assist with commissioning of new plant and equipment, including developing commissioning plans, troubleshooting issues, and conducting I/O testing. What you will need You’ll hold an NVQ Level 4 or a degree in an engineering discipline, or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience in a relevant industrial setting. A strong understanding of installation works and experience working with permit-to-work systems is essential. You should have a solid knowledge of health and safety principles, ideally supported by a qualification such as IOSH Managing Safely. Familiarity with project management processes and critical path analysis is important, along with excellent time management and communication skills. You’ll need the confidence to challenge non-compliance and poor performance, and ideally, you’ll bring experience gained in a heavy industry environment, such as the steel sector.
