The site

Harrow School is situated in Harrow on the Hill in north-west London and is one of the best-known schools in the world. Around 835 boys aged 13 to 18 study at Harrow and live in the School’s 12 boarding Houses. The School’s Ryan Theatre seats over 300 people and is equipped to industry standards, staging an ambitious and diverse range of productions consistently drawing on the creativity and skill of our talented theatre production staff team. Harrow has a national reputation for its drama programme, and many former pupils have progressed to pursue careers in the theatre and performance industries.

The role:

The Production and Theatre Manager will play a central role in managing the planning, coordination and technical delivery of the busy theatre programme. It’s an excellent opportunity to develop a wide range of disciplines; from managing all production requirements including equipment, theatre spaces and health and safety, to line managing production support staff and contractors, as well as overseeing maintenance, refurbishments and upgrades. You will also support the education and supervision of pupils developing their drama skills and collaborate with internal departments, suppliers and external organisations. For more information about the extensive drama opportunities throughout the School year and within the local community, click HERE.

To learn more about the role, please review the job description attached as a separate document to the advertisement on this page.

The skills:

This role will suit a candidate with a proven track record of working in a theatre venue at managerial level on artistic events, with significant experience in theatre production and a high level of knowledge of sound and technical equipment. You will relish the opportunity to create a supportive and stretching environment for your team and students, to maximise the potential of what they can achieve and build on the School’s impressive reputation for ground-breaking school drama productions.

Using your thorough understanding of the theatre’s creative and technical processes, you will apply your pragmatic approach and sound judgment to recommend ways of working that are practical, minimise risk and manage finances/resources effectively. Your strong written and verbal communication skills, tactful, approachable manner and ability to positively influence others will enable you to build strong professional relationships throughout the School at all levels of seniority.

The benefits include:

* free lunch
* free parking
* automatic enrolment in the School’s pension scheme
* use of the School’s sports facilities such as the swimming pool, gym, and running track.
* subsidised membership of the tennis, golf, angling and social clubs.

Applications will be processed as they are received and interviews may take place before the closing date, so early application is recommended.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are values that are important to us at Harrow. We believe in diversity of thought and actively welcome everyone regardless of their background to bring their valuable and relevant skills to our community.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All successful applicants must be willing to undergo enhanced child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with any past employer and the Disclosure and Barring Service, and it is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.

No member of staff will be able to start until these checks are complete and this process takes, on average, a month. Please plan accordingly.
