This role comes with lots of variety and challenges as no day is ever the same. You'll have exposure to a broad scope of engineering works as we connect more of the country with electricity for necessities like Electric Vehicles, this will increase the need for major new infrastructure, you'll get to see the results of your work and play your part on the Net Zero journey.

As a Commissioning Engineer you will continuously strive to improve the transmission network by applying your experience and knowledge of the existing technologies which underpin it, such as, GIS switchgear and future SF6 replacement technology solutions in all their variations, HV equipment such as complex cable systems, transformers and compensation equipment, HVDC systems along with protection and control, but not just existing technologies, it's also a great opportunity to be part of the transition and implementation of new technologies to transform the grid, such as, hydrogen, solar, wind, AI and digitalisation, in order to play an integral role in the energy transition.

Day to day activities include maintenance, investigation and fault repair to existing substation assets, commissioning new assets on to the system, leading on fault response when things go wrong, developing new projects, partnering with designers and suppliers on solutions for modernising our assets. The types of projects you will be involved with are - new build substations, cable extensions and replacements, routine single asset replacement, substation extensions and new customer connections. Involved with developing future commissioning engineers.


Requirements:

* Min Level 4/HNC in Electrical Engineering.
* You have significant experience in commissioning HV equipment, Protection & Control Equipment and technically proficient in power systems theory, ideally you will have held a senior authorisation.
* You'll be organised with excellent attention to detail and communication skills, can demonstrate experience of site supervisory or management and delivery of projects.
* Have an excellent understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation, practices and policies,
* Hold a current Full UK driving licence.
* Can commit to a standby rota for emergency call outs, due to this you will need to be within roughly 1 hour commute of sites.

Desirable -

* BP141 authorisation
* NEBOSH.


Pay and Benefits

* A starting salary £54,090 to £68,000 pa + Company Car.
* Standby Allowance + Paid Overtime + Training and Development.
* 37 hours Mon - Fri typically 8am - 4 pm.
* 26 days annual leave plus 8 statutory days.
