About the Role: Reporting to the SARC Manager, the SARC Patient Crisis Worker (SPCW) will play a vital role in coordinating various aspects of SARC activities. The SPCW will undergo training to fulfill the responsibilities of the role, which includes providing support for the Forensic Examination Service at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). Location: Sussex SARC, and additional locations through the South East.

Salary: £26,883.38 per annum (FTE 40 hours). Part-time: 24 hours per week. Shift Pattern: 2 x 12 hour shifts, 8 pm to 8 am Monday‑Friday.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide telephone information and support to patients and their families.
* Administer and coordinate visits by adults, children, and families, supporting patients through the examination journey.
* Assist with the use of the colposcope during the examination procedure.
* Deliver advocacy support to patients and families, ensuring a compassionate and patient‑centred approach.
* Maintain high standards through anti‑contamination processes and measures.
* Recruit and train zero‑hour SPCW and support outreach programmes to raise awareness of SARC services.
* Assist in achieving and maintaining UKAS accreditation and support the implementation and ongoing delivery of ISO 15189 and the FSR Code of Practice.
* Provide training and competency assessment for new SPCW in forensic cleaning.
* Book forensic consumables, ensuring acceptance testing and inventory management is complete.
* Assist with DNA environmental monitoring where applicable.
* Audit anti‑contamination processes and understand contamination risks associated with activities.
* Oversee continued support of patients after their initial visit, conducting follow‑up calls, regular check‑ins, and coordinating onward referrals as part of a six‑week patient case‑management programme.


Essential Skills & Qualifications

* Experience working in a supportive or customer‑focused environment.
* Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality.
* Experience completing administrative duties.
* Good IT skills.
* Advanced DBS and level 2 Police vetting.
* UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (additional travel required).
* Because of the nature of the Sexual Offence Examiner, applications are invited from females only (genuine occupational qualification under the Sex Discrimination Act, Section 7(2)b and 7(2)e).
