Are you looking for an opportunity to lead and influence Health and Safety strategy across a complex academic estate, embedding a positive and proactive safety culture?
Irwin and Colton are proud to be working with a well-established and leading educational institution to recruit a Head of Health, Safety and Fire Safety. This role offers the opportunity to lead health and safety across a large and diverse academic environment, supporting a thriving community of thousands of students, academics and professional staff. With responsibility for a varied estate that includes around 80 buildings across a 16 acre campus, the role will play a key part in embedding a practical, risk-based approach to health and safety and strengthening a positive safety culture across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities of the Head of Health, Safety and Fire Safety Include:
Develop and oversee university-wide health, safety, and fire safety policies and procedures
Lead investigations into incidents, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
Provide expert advice and guidance to senior management and staff on safety compliance and risk management.
Manage fire safety protocols, including evacuation procedures, drills, and records.
Lead, mentor, and support the health and safety team, fostering a proactive safety culture across all departments.The Successful Head of Health, Safety and Fire Safety will have:
Relevant Health and Safety qualification and ideally NEBOSH fire as a minimum.
Experience in leading a health, safety and fire safety function and team for a large and complex organisation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience in influencing and engaging with a wide range of senior stakeholders
Strong knowledge of health, safety, and fire safety legislation, including risk assessments and incident investigation.
