About the Programme The programme is transforming the MOD’s deployable IT capability across Land and Maritime domains. It is replacing legacy CIS services with a modern, secure, and resilient in-house solution designed to meet the demands of frontline operations. A core element of this transformation is the delivery of robust Through Life Support (TLS) services—ensuring systems remain operational, secure, and fully supported in dynamic and often challenging environments. The Role As a WINTEL & VDI Engineer (SFIA Level 3 or 4), you will provide advanced 2nd/3rd line support within the Service Operations and Resolver Group functions. You’ll be responsible for maintaining and supporting Windows-based infrastructure and Virtual Desktop environments that underpin critical operational capability. You will: · Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows-based servers, including: o Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 o Active Directory & Group Policy o SQL Server o DNS, DHCP, and other core network services · Provide advanced L3/L4 support, including: o L3: network connectivity, cabling, switches, routers o L4: applications running on Windows servers and VDI systems · Work with virtualisation technologies and VDI platforms (Citrix, VMware Horizon) where required · Deploy patches, updates, and security hardening in line with programme and MOD policies · Participate in system monitoring, performance tuning, capacity planning, and root cause analysis · Support operational procedures, change control, and ITIL-aligned service processes · Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement infrastructure improvements and ensure service continuity Note: This role focuses exclusively on Windows-based infrastructure. Linux or non-Windows server administration is not part of this position. What We’re Looking For Proven experience working at SFIA Level 3 or 4 in a Windows infrastructure environment Strong knowledge of: Windows Server & Active Directory administration SQL Server Group Policy, DNS, DHCP Virtualisation and VDI technologies (Citrix, VMware Horizon) · Understanding of network layers (L3/L4) and application support · Experience following ITIL service management processes · Previous experience in secure or defence environments is highly desirable · Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills · Ability to work on-site at Corsham Important Note Due to the nature of this work, candidates must be eligible for appropriate UK security clearance.
