About the Role
An exciting opportunity in our London office is available for an experienced, creative, and motivated Head of Sustainability/Sustainability Lead. You will deliver projects, grow our business, and manage the UK team, collaborating with top industry professionals. Responsibilities include technical delivery of Building Physics and Sustainability outputs across various sectors, including design and analysis related to building physics, carbon reduction, and sustainable building design.
The role involves delivering sustainable, low-energy design projects, working closely with clients to assess and enhance their sustainability performance. You will also be responsible for expanding the Sustainability function within Inhabit, providing strategic direction, and leading business development efforts to embed sustainability as a core part of our offerings.
The client base is global; the role is UK-based but involves securing work across Europe, the Middle East, Canada, and the Americas. Collaboration with experts in Australasia, Hong Kong, and the UAE will be essential, each leading their own sustainability teams.
Team and Responsibilities
The Inhabit Europe team specializes in environmental assessments, energy and carbon management, whole life carbon assessment, building physics, daylight, wind analysis, air quality, water conservation, flood risk, and SUDS. You will lead this multidisciplinary team across sectors and regions.
Typical activities include:
1. Leading the Sustainability Team in assessment and consultancy services;
2. Conducting calculations, modeling, and preparing reports, proposals, and presentations;
3. Managing projects and stakeholders;
4. Driving business development through client engagement and innovation;
5. Supporting work-winning activities and raising the profile of Inhabit services;
6. Developing strategies to grow the sustainability business;
7. Mentoring junior staff and supporting their career growth.
Qualifications and Experience Needed
* Degree in engineering, science, or related fields such as civil, environmental, sustainability, building services, mechanical, or electrical engineering;
* Extensive experience in green building assessment and sustainability consultancy;
* Experience working on projects in the Middle East is advantageous;
* Knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1 or 90.2 standards;
* Ability to develop carbon reduction strategies;
* Experience estimating costs for Part O, Part L, and embodied carbon assessments;
* Understanding of Nabors, BREEAM, LEED, TM65, etc.;
* Knowledge of building physics topics like thermal bridging, air movement, wind, and solar.
