Closing date for this vacancy: Monday 20 April 2026 at 3.00pm Interviews for this vacancy: Thursday 7 May 2026 Summary of Role Roundabout are looking for an enthusiastic person who has a passion for learning and developing their skills working with homeless young people, with a view to gaining future employment as a keyworker within Roundabout. We aim to support the trainee to develop strong communication skills, resilience, excellent data recording skills and become an integral part of the team at the hostel. The post requires you to work as part of the hostel staff team. The service provides 24-hour support on a rota basis within an accommodation-based service which houses 27 young people aged 16-21 years. As the trainee, you will initially be working as part of the larger team and through training and development you will support and manage a reduced caseload of 2 young people You will develop skills around understanding relationships with young people, help guide them through their support plan process and complete assessments to identify goals through working in a strength-based approach. You will help deliver life-skills sessions in areas such as: managing a tenancy, self-care, budgeting, money management, managing health issues, claiming benefits, accessing external services, training, education and employment opportunities and learning to live successfully within communities. The hostel team also hold activity sessions for young people at the service and out in the wider community. Key Accountabilities Trainee Project Worker Responsibilities Safeguarding Promote and safeguard the welfare of young people at all times Undertake strengths-based wellbeing and safety assessments, developing person- centred goals. Respond to safeguarding concerns, incidents, including attending strategy meetings Escalate concerns promptly in line with organisational safeguarding procedures. Maintain professional boundaries and model safe, respectful behaviour. Person-Centred and Trauma-Informed working practice Hold and manage a structured caseload Deliver outcome-focused keywork sessions Complete and Review wellbeing and safety assessments Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and autonomy Ensure young people’s wishes, feelings, and strengths are included in all support planning Multi-Agency Meeting Planning and Attendance Prepare and attend professional meetings relating to young people in service including completing reports. Advocate for the young person’s voice and best interests Record agreed actions and ensure follow-up implementation Environmental Safety and Residential Contribution Maintain a safe and clean environment, including undertaking cleaning tasks when rooms are void Support young people to maintain communal and personal spaces. Record regular health & safety checks in all accommodation. Supporting Young People’s Development and Independence Encourage education, employment, and training engagement Accompany young people to appointments where appropriate. Promote independence in managing appointments and responsibilities Support young people to complete independent living skills keywork packages Recording, Reporting, and Inspection Readiness Complete accurate case notes, incident reports, keywork records, wellbeing and safety assessments. Provide comprehensive and factual handover notes highlighting safeguarding, environmental, and welfare updates. Maintain records that are GDPR-compliant and inspection-ready Working as Part of a Team Team Working: Collaborate with team members including Managers, Attend staff team meetings and contribute to young people risk management, service improvement, and reflective practice discussions Share information and support colleagues while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries Other Duties Turn around void bedspaces in a timely manner which includes cleaning and preparing the rooms for the next occupant. Assist with managing stock, ordering items and competing inventories with young people on entry and exit to the service. Take responsibility and ownership for maintaining a clean and safe environment both internally and externally. Act in the best interests of Roundabout at all times Participate in training and undertake appropriate learning and development, as identified through appraisal and regular reviews with line manager Person Specification - Specific Knowledge, Experience & Skills Transferable skills and/or experience of working with a vulnerable client group who present with multiple needs An understanding of the issues facing homeless young people or a similar client group An understanding of working in a strength-based approach in relation to support young people with complex needs Ability to recognise and challenges negative behaviour Understanding of safe guarding issues faced by young people Act as a reflective practitioner to take responsibility for sharing skills and knowledge to improve the service and support for young people Have excellent IT and communication skills to deliver reports, recording and share information in a professional manner To take responsibility to keep skills and knowledge up to date by attending relevant training Ability to work directly with young people in a residential setting face to face to engage complex young people in supporting them to achieve there identified goals. Ability to work directly with complex young people while managing the H&S of the hostel.
