Operations & Maintenance Technician
Location : London Gatwick Airport (Crawley area)
Salary: £16.82 p/h day / £ 18.50 p/h night
Employment : Temp to Perm - Full-time | Ongoing role
We are recruiting on behalf of a client at Gatwick airport for an Operations & Maintenance Technician to join their on-site Operations team. This is a hands-on technical role focused on the operation and maintenance of an innovative robotic car park system within a live airport environment.
We are looking for a passionate and curious operations & maintenance technician, who has Level 2 or Level 3 technical qualification (NVQ/BTEC/City & Guilds) in mechanical, electrical, or automation, plus 2-3 years' relevant experience.
You will receive full on-the-job training from technical experts, making this an excellent opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology while developing your technical skills in a highly regulated and dynamic setting.
Key Responsibilities
Perform mechanical, electrical, and basic control system maintenance on robots and infrastructure
Carry out routine inspections, fault-finding, and troubleshooting
Operate the facility under normal and emergency conditions
Liaise with airport operations staff and internal teams
Provide user support when required
Assist with documentation, procedures, and inventory management using standard IT tools
Understands the robotics environment, automated processes, and customer's expectations and challenges.
Shift Pattern & Working Hours
Flexibility to work both day and night shifts is required
Standard working pattern is Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work as operationally required
Day shifts: Between 08:00 and 19:00
Night shifts: Between 21:00 and 06:00
Overtime available and paid at an enhanced rate
This is a fully on-site role; remote working is not available
Work will be carried out in both indoor and outdoor environments at an operational airport site
What We're Looking For
Level 2/3 technical qualification (NVQ/BTEC/City & Guilds) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation Engineering
2-3 year's experience in a similar role
Mechanical and/or electrical maintenance background
Experience with robotics or automation preferred
Organised, reliable, and customer-focused
Confident using standard IT tools
Fluent English required; French an advantage
Availability for 2 week's fully funded training in France
