Job Summary
Bhuku Ltd is recruiting a Self‑Employment & Enterprise Tutor to deliver a specialist programme at HMP Sudbury. This role supports prisoners in the final stage of their sentence to explore self‑employment and entrepreneurship, helping them develop realistic business ideas and clear release plans.
Responsibilities
You will deliver a flexible programme combining 1:1 coaching and group workshops, supporting learners to build confidence and create viable business plans. Key duties include:
* Explore whether self‑employment is right for each learner
* Develop and assess business ideas
* Conduct market research
* Build realistic and structured business plans
* Support understanding of finance, marketing and sales
* Develop confidence, decision‑making and problem‑solving skills
* Deliver 1:1 coaching sessions and small group workshops
* Support learners to produce a completed business plan or model
* Provide tailored advice based on individual goals and abilities
* Signpost learners to external support services pre‑ and post‑release
* Contribute to monthly reporting, learner tracking and case studies
* Support quality assurance processes and programme improvement
Person Specification
Essential
* Experience delivering enterprise, business or employability programmes
* Strong communication and coaching skills
* Ability to engage learners with diverse needs and backgrounds
* Ability to work within a secure environment and follow procedures
* Willingness to complete prison vetting and induction
Desirable
* Experience working in a custodial or secure setting
* Experience in self‑employment, business start‑up or entrepreneurship
* Teaching, training or coaching qualification
* Experience supporting neurodiverse learners or those with additional needs
Skills and Experience
* Confident delivering 1:1 coaching and small group workshops
* Able to support learners to develop realistic and viable business ideas
* Skilled in motivating individuals who may lack confidence
* Organised and able to track learner progress and outcomes
* Professional and adaptable in a secure environment
Additional Information
This role is based at a Category D open prison focused on resettlement and employment. Working will be in the Through the Gate (TTG) Hub and classroom spaces, with access to IT facilities for research and planning.
Collaborate closely with the Prison Employment Lead, Offender Managers and Education and resettlement teams.
All staff must pass security vetting, complete prison induction and mandatory training, and follow all HMPPS policies and procedures.
