Job overview

The Nursing Associate will have successfully completed the Nursing Associate training programme which includes attainment of a level 5 Foundation Degree equivalent qualification. They will have developed and will be expected to maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Nursing Associate within the service and through completion of the Nursing Associate training programme which includes working in care settings and delivery of person-centred care.

They will provide general/specific care as identified below for a delegated patient group under the indirect supervision of a registered practitioner. They will be expected to be proficient and complete and maintain local competencies relevant to clinical area.

We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

Main duties of the job

The Nursing Associate will:

1. Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (or other registered care professional dependent on setting) with a focus on promoting health and independence.
2. Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values.
3. Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual.
4. Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or other registered care professionals dependent on setting.
5. Take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

6. Carry out programmes of care, therapy or treatment determined by registered healthcare practitioners. This may entail making minor modifications to the care programme or package within prescribed parameters, and reporting back on progress.
7. Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (or other registered care professional) with a focus on promoting health and independence
8. Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or other registered care professionals dependent on setting
9. Document nursing care in a comprehensive, timely, logical, accurate, clear and concise manner using appropriate terminologies (counter-signed by a registered practitioner, as appropriate)
10. Assist in the safe admission, transfer and discharge of patients in accordance with Trust policies
11. May supervise clinical support workers (e.g. Health Care Assistants, Trainee Assistant Practitioners, Trainee Nursing Associates and 1st, 2nd year student nurses) in own area; may assist in assessment and learning/development of clinical support workers
12. Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values
13. Take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace

Qualifications

Essential criteria

14. Registered Nursing Associate or awaiting registration

Desirable criteria

15. Acute Care experience.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

16. Ability to work rotation of day and night shifts
17. Can work minimum of 23 hours a week
18. Successful completion of the Nursing Associate Apprenticeship Standard which includes attainment of a regulated level 5 qualification such as a Foundation Degree or Level 5 Diploma of Higher Education, deliveredby an institution approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to provide preregistration nursing education.
19. Evidence of functional skills in mathematics and English Level 2 or GCSEs in maths and English at Grade C/4 or above(or equivalent.)
