About the Role
East Sussex County Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join the Adult Social Care Continuing Healthcare Team in Eastbourne. This is a full-time, permanent position offering hybrid working and the opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of adults requiring continuing healthcare support.
Role Overview
As part of the Continuing Healthcare Team, you will work closely with NHS Sussex All Age Continuing Care and other local partners to ensure individuals are assessed in line with the Continuing Healthcare framework. Your role will involve safeguarding duties, statutory assessments, and applying key legislation in daily practice. You will be expected to use a strengths‑based, outcome‑focused approach to support clients, while also contributing to court of protection work where required.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out assessments under the Care Act (2014), Mental Capacity Act (2005), and Mental Health Act (1983)
* Implement safeguarding duties under section 42 to protect vulnerable clients
* Apply Equality legislation and Deprivation of Liberty safeguards in practice
* Conduct section 9 assessments using a strengths‑based approach
* Work collaboratively with NHS and local partners to determine funding eligibility under the Continuing Healthcare framework
* Contribute to court of protection work, with training provided if needed
* Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with statutory duties
Candidate Requirements
* Registered Social Worker with Social Work England
* Qualified with C.Q.S.W, DipSW, Degree, or Master’s in Social Work
* Social Workers with Assessed and Supported Year Employment (ASYE) qualifications are encouraged to apply
* Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation including Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, Equality legislation, and Deprivation of Liberty safeguards
* Experience of court of protection work is desirable but not essential
Training and Development
East Sussex County Council offers extensive training and career development opportunities. You will receive monthly individual supervision, reflective peer supervision, and support for continuous professional development (CPD). Financial support may be available for you to train as a Best Interest Assessor or Approved Mental Health Professional. Your annual registration fee with Social Work England will be reimbursed.
