Join to apply for the Volunteer Driver's Assistant role at St Leonard's Hospice. Our Volunteer Driver’s Assistant role provides a key service to our Retail Team, ensuring smooth running of the Retail logistics service and raising vital funds for St Leonard’s Hospice through its collection service and stock movement system.
When am I needed? Our van service runs Monday to Saturday, from 8am to 4pm. We’re looking for volunteers to support the full duration of each shift. Shifts are assigned on a flexible, ad hoc basis to suit your availability, and opportunities are regularly available throughout the month.
Responsibilities
* Assisting the driver to fulfil their day-to-day duties
* Lifting and moving furniture and donated goods
* Packing and loading/unloading the van
* Delivery of goods to customers
* Remove and safely dispose of waste material
* Assisting the driver with vehicle safety checks
Note: this is a physically active role with a significant amount of manual handling, including moving shop stock items, heavy donation bags, and light pieces of furniture. You will not be required to drive any Hospice vehicles.

Support and supervision
The St Leonard’s Hospice Retail Team (Head Office) will provide you with full training and liaise closely with you over all aspects of your role. Volunteers will be supervised by the Retail Drivers and the Retail Team. The Volunteer Services Team will guide you through the application and induction process and be your point of contact for general enquiries about volunteering.
Training
Volunteers are required to complete mandatory training modules, usually delivered online. Additional training may be delivered as needed via e-learning, video links or face-to-face sessions. You may also be invited to attend role-specific in-person meetings where appropriate.
