The Role Permanent Full Time Knowlton and Newman, part of the Rubix Group, provide 24/7 engineering services. We repair, overhaul, install, and maintain pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, hydraulic equipment and cover a wide range of industrial equipment for customers across multiple sectors. The Team Leader Technician is an experienced and multi-skilled engineer, responsible not only for carrying out technical work to the highest standards, but also for providing day-to-day leadership, guidance, and support to technicians within the workshop or on site. The role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of services while acting as the senior technical authority for assigned jobs. Key Responsibilities Core Technical Duties Install, commission, test, maintain, and repair mechanical and/or electrical systems and equipment. Diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards. Complete job documentation accurately and on time. Operate machinery, tools, and test equipment safely and effectively. Liaise with customers, colleagues, and management to provide updates and technical support. Leadership & Management Responsibilities Lead day-to-day operations in the workshop or on-site jobs, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency. Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical support to less experienced technicians. Monitor productivity, allocate tasks, and ensure deadlines are met. Maintain tooling, equipment, and consumables, raising orders when required. Promote continuous improvement in processes, safety, and customer service. Support estimating and quoting by advising on job durations, methods, and technical requirements. Act as the primary point of contact for customers and management during job execution. Complete required paperwork and ensure all documentation is accurate and compliant. Person Specification Skills & Experience Strong technical expertise in one or more specialist areas Experience leading or mentoring technicians, with strong interpersonal skills. Ability to set up, operate, and troubleshoot a wide range of engineering equipment. Problem-solving mindset, with the ability to work on bespoke or complex jobs. Strong organisational skills, able to manage own workflow and coordinate others. Good communication skills with both colleagues and customers. Qualifications Recognised apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent). Additional specialist training/certification desirable (lifting, electrical testing, confined space, etc.). Supervisory/leadership training desirable. Valid UK driving licence preferred.
