Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton or Manchester (minimum 2 days on site per fortnight). We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about options.
Salary: Negotiable depending on experience
What you’ll be doing:
1. Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
2. Collaborate with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
3. Support assurance activities with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
4. Work with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress through agile tools.
5. Ensure the engineering delivery plan is met and delivered on schedule.
6. Provide guidance on engineering methods/processes to the delivery team.
7. Develop technical solutions with the Engineering Delivery Team, fostering team development.
8. Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions from baseline designs.
Your skills and experiences:
* Essential: Experience in developing C&I designs for large-scale systems, meeting functional and industry standards.
* Experience managing non-functional requirements (e.g., EMC, shock) ensuring industrial compliance.
* Experience in authoring/reviewing design documents like I/O schedules, functional specifications, interface control documents.
* Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science.
* Desirable: Knowledge of control system architecture, communication protocols (RS-485, PROFIBUS), IEC 61508 – Functional Safety, and Manoeuvring Systems.

The Platform Complex Systems team:
Contribute to defining and designing the Royal Navy’s next attack submarine class, working with legacy and new control systems, collaborating with various stakeholders and suppliers. Relocation support available based on eligibility.
