We are looking for a Senior Payroll Coordinator to join our Devonport team on a permanent contract. You will play a key leadership role within the Commercial Team, leading the payroll function on site and managing direct reports to ensure the smooth and accurate delivery of payroll operations.
You will be responsible for processing the weekly payroll for over 400 weekly paid operatives, ensuring employees are paid accurately and in accordance with contractual arrangements and strict weekly deadlines.
This position is central to supporting our operational teams and maintaining payroll accuracy, compliance, data integrity and high service standards across the site.
How You Will Make An Impact
* Leading and overseeing the weekly payroll submission process in line with company and contractual deadlines
* Managing and supporting an on site payroll team, ensuring workload allocation, accuracy and performance standards are maintained
* Overseeing and assisting with the input of daily timesheets into the electronic payroll system
* Ensuring effective use of the QuickBase system to process and accurately allocate time bookings into timesheets
* Reviewing and validating timesheet data to ensure accuracy and compliance prior to submission
* Preparing and approving the weekly paysheet for submission to Central Payroll
* Managing absence administration including sickness, holiday, paternity and bereavement processing
* Ensuring completion and submission of the weekly holiday tracker
* Owning and maintaining the master payroll sheet, including weekly updates and data controls
* Reviewing and authorising payroll adjustments and backpay calculations
* Acting as the primary escalation point for payroll related queries from employees and stakeholders
* Liaising closely with site operations and the central payroll function to ensure seamless payroll delivery
* Supporting and coordinating third party audit requirements
* Overseeing employee detail amendments and ensuring compliance with internal controls
What You Will Bring
* Proven experience in a payroll role, with leadership or supervisory responsibility
* Experience overseeing payroll processes and supporting or managing team members
* Demonstrated ability to meet demanding targets and strict weekly deadlines in a fast-paced environment
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload across both personal and team responsibilities
* Ability to work proactively, use initiative and resolve issues independently
* Professional approach with the confidence to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation
* Strong computer literacy skills with experience of payroll and time management systems
* Excellent communication skills when dealing with staff, operational teams and external stakeholders
Desirable
* Experience leading payroll within a contracting or construction environment
* Experience with payroll software
* Sound understanding of payroll compliance requirements
* Strong business awareness and understanding of the key commercial drivers and challenges within a contracting environment
