Our work is essential to enable HS2 trains to travel between London and Birmingham as well as continue their journey up to Manchester. We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a GIS (Geographic Information System) Trainee within the Information Management Team. This role will be based on site in Birmingham (Erdington) Our head office is located within an excellent location easily accessible via the M6 and M42. The office is also accessible via rail, and we offer employees a shuttle bus transfer to our office from Birmingham city centre. Role Responsibilities; Provide support to the GIS Technicians and Co-ordinators in delivering GIS requirements. Create GIS map outputs. Manage and ensure the accuracy of data. Work closely with CAD Co-ordinators to covert data to GIS format. Assist with training users on using GIS technology such as ArcGIS Portal, Field Maps and QGIS. Engage with users to help improve their work and deal with queries. Represent the project to the wider core business at quarterly forums, share lessons learned amongst the business unit and education practices through briefings/demonstrations. Maintain effective working relationships with all interested parties. Experienced required Ability to learn new skills and to collaboratively work with others as part of an Integrated Project Team. Ability to work on producing GIS map outputs. Ability to work to deadlines with supervision, as needed. Ability to manage their time effectively. Ability to organise work and prioritise where required. Ability to communicate effectively and develop interpersonal communication skills. Awareness of the ESRI ArcGIS software suite. Awareness of FME software and its uses & of BIM. Awareness of CAD packages. Willingness to learn and develop within the GIS discipline, and wider IM function. Comfortable use of modern office computer systems, e.g., Microsoft 365. Access to a vehicle and/or easy access to public transport for the purpose of commuting to multiple sites/Sublot locations. We started working together over 30 years ago to deliver the Channel Tunnel, as members of the TransManche Link consortium. In the Midlands, it is Balfour Beatty VINCI’s role to design and build the route, ready for tracks and signalling to be installed. Our work with HS2 Balfour Beatty VINCI have been awarded a 90km section of the HS2 project from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and then on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.
