To assist the Financial Accountant in operating and maintaining a robust system of internal control and to undertake such financial accounting duties as required by the role.
Main duties of the job
1. Support Financial Controls: Assist the Financial Accountant in maintaining robust internal controls and financial accounting processes.
2. Account Reconciliation: Reconcile key control accounts, including those for payroll, pensions, VAT, and supplier payments, ensuring accuracy and timely clearance.
3. Payroll and Benefits Administration: Process payroll-related payments, manage salary sacrifice schemes, and support staff with payroll queries.
4. VAT and Tax Compliance: Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns and reconcile accounts related to income tax, national insurance, and pensions.
5. Losses, Special Payments, and Insurance: Administer systems for losses, special payments, and insurance returns, ensuring compliance and accurate reporting.
6. Drug Prescribing and Clinical Resource Accounting: Manage FP10 (drug prescribing) accounting systems and support accruals for clinical resources.
7. Private Patient Deposits: Reconcile private patient deposits and ensure correct processing of payments and income.
8. Audit Support: Assist with statutory annual accounts preparation, respond to internal and external audit queries, and implement audit recommendations.
9. Fleet and Purchasing Card Administration: Administer lease car and purchasing card processes, including documentation, reconciliation, and payment coding.
10. General Financial Support: Provide ad-hoc financial information to staff, support the production of annual accounts, and undertake other duties as required.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATI ONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
11. Educated to ‘A’ level standard and holding GCSE grade A-C in both English and Maths
12. Part qualified and actively studying for a professional accountancy qualification
13. AAT qualified (or similar recognised degree level qualification)
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
14. Understanding and experience of the Financial Accounting function and technical accounting in a large organisation with high value transactions
15. Good understanding and experience of computerised financial systems
16. Good knowledge and experience gained from working in an Financial Accounting role, preferably NHS
17. Experience in NHS financial procedures with regard to reporting timetables.

18. To be able to communicate financial information, both verbally and in writing to a range of people, including senior managers and directors.
19. To be able to use influencing and negotiating skills in the management of junior members of staff in order for them to achieve required common goals..
20. To be able analyse and to extract important messages from complex data in order to communicate it in summarised form.
21. To be able to use Microsoft Office applications in order to produce information in the most appropriate format, including particularly Excel and Word.
22. To be able to prioritise a number of tasks, taking into account internal and external deadlines, escalating issues in a timely manner.

24. To be able to escalate issues with quality or workload within own area, making suggestions in order to resolve the problems identified in a timely way.
25. To be responsible for agreeing personal development requirements, agreeing action plans and activities.
