Job overview

The Addenbrooke’s vascular surgery department is one of the largest vascular units in the country and we are offering an exciting opportunity to join our specialist nursing team for a 1 year secondment opportunity.

Vascular surgery is the speciality in which diseases of the vascular system (arteries and veins) are managed, largely via surgical intervention.

As a unit we have a collaborative working approach and provide vascular surgery services to the majority of the east of England region.

We will offer a full training program so that you will be confident in the role of the vascular nurse.

The role of the specialist nurse consists of nurse led surveillance clinics, patient follow up telephone clinics, assisting in vein treatments in an outpatient theatre setting, manage patient caseloads, have a strong working relationship with the multi-disciplinary team and consultants, work closely with the vascular ward to provide knowledge and teaching for complex and challenging wounds and help support the coordination of the various vascular disease specific pathways.

Over a period of time you will progress to triaging referrals, assisting with the delivery of teaching sessions and study days. Provide expert advice, knowledge and guidance to patients and colleagues and manage our established critical limb ischaemia clinic reviewing and treating patients with limb threatening conditions


Main duties of the job

We are looking for a passionate nurse who is keen to develop the specialist nursing role, who can be flexible to the changing demands of the service needs as every day brings a new challenge. This role requires excellent communication, organisational and prioritisation skills and be able to work autonomously or within the team.

Please note:- Internal applicants on permanent contracts can apply for this post as a secondment. For secondments you must have the approval of your line manager before applying. If you are an internal applicant currently on a fixed term contract you are able to apply for this as a fixed term position.
