About the Opportunity:
We are seeking a Fire Engineer to join our team based in our London office to undertake fire engineering design work for a range of interesting projects throughout the world. Our team focuses on fire engineering design inputs for a range of small to large scale infrastructure projects and specifically writing fire strategies, undertaking evacuation calculations and carrying out fire dynamics, smoke control and heat transfer studies using a multitude of tools. The successful candidate would also can gain an insight into designing fire protection systems as part of their wider development.
We specialise in large scale transportation projects, particularly road and rail. We develop fire strategies and carry out fire engineering analysis using various prescriptive and analytical methods. The successful candidate would be involved and gain an insight into various types of projects in the UK and throughout the world as part of their career development. There will be opportunities to work in local, national, and international projects as part of our work portfolio and in sectors such as road, rail and cable tunnels, rail stations, nuclear sites and transportation hubs. Equally, we encourage our colleagues to get involved in research, write conference papers including presenting in conferences and provide support to achieve such personal and company goals as needed.
Duties;
1. Develop Fire Strategies using engineering principles and write technical reports.
2. Use national and international standards, BS 9999, BS 9991, BS 9992, ADB,NFPA and IBC codes to carry out work.
3. Carry out engineering calculations or perform fire engineering analysis if needed.
4. Assisting in the bidding process of future work and developing networking channels.
5. Visit and work from client or project offices and travel as and when required, locally and internationally.
6. Participate in site inspections of tunnels and related infrastructure facilities as and when required.
You’ll have the opportunity to learn how to design fire protection systems, learn CFD and evacuation modelling and become a well round design professional within the team with growth opportunities in multiple sectors. This can be catered to depending on your interests.
Here's What You'll Need:
7. Bachelor or master’s degree in engineering or science is preferred.
8. A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in fire life safety and fire protection systems design.
9. Prior experience of preparing or contributing in Fire Life Safety Strategy and carrying out fire engineering calculations is desirable will be helpful. CFD or evacuation modelling knowledge is a bonus.
10. Some knowledge of international fire standards such as NFPA, UAE FLS Code, Saudi Fire Code (SBC 801), IBC/IFC Codes is useful.
11. Experience in computational modelling of fire growth, smoke movement and evacuation would be beneficial but not mandatory.
12. Good written and verbal communication skills (clear and concise report writing will be expected).
13. Basic knowledge of CAD Software using AutoCAD / Revit or other program can be a bonus. Computer literate in: MS Office package (or similar) Ability or desire to learn scripting languages (such as python) to automate tasks will be beneficial
14. Ability to work independently with little supervision.
15. A team player who enjoys working with colleagues in other disciplines and sectors of the construction and other industries.
