Overview
We are looking for a Design Engineer to join our Design team based in London. The role involves supporting Construction Engineering services and leading the delivery of design solutions that are safe and buildable.
Location & Hours
Location: SE1, London.
Hours: 40 hours per week with some flexibility.
Responsibilities
* Agree on technical requirements of the client remit and ensure they are fully understood.
* Challenge and question the remit where necessary.
* Lead the development of fee proposals in line with delegated authority policy.
* Organise and lead the day‑to‑day workload of engineers and technical staff within the design team.
* Ensure technical compliance of designs with the remit, legal requirements, CDM regulations, SHE Management System (SHEMS) and Quality Management System (QMS).
* Oversee and contribute to the production of design deliverables including calculations, drawings, reports and risk assessments.
* Identify and assess technical opportunities for value engineering and implement them with suitable approval.
* Develop and build positive relationships with clients, design and site teams to support contractual obligations and exceed client expectations.
* Serve as the lead representative in project and progress meetings with clients, from remit development through to lessons learned.
* Manage financial and commercial aspects of the project with support from the Engineering Manager and Commercial Manager.
* Monitor progress against the agreed programme and budget and deliver projects on time and within budget.
* Maintain project documentation and records, provide regular project reports to the Engineering Manager and client, including financial updates and programme forecasts.
* Provide early warnings on issues such as significant overspends as soon as they are apparent.
* Review monthly invoices prior to issue and seek formal and informal client feedback during the project and at its conclusion.
* Document lessons learned and ensure continuous improvement within Kier Design.
Qualifications & Experience
* Completed IEng Initial Professional Development (or CEng equivalent progress) with a relevant professional institution such as ICE.
* Hold Level 6 or Level 7 qualifications.
* Significant relevant industry experience.
