Job Title: Mechanical Fitter (Lead pump & Salt water AP Trainee)
Location: HM Naval Base, Portsmouth (HMNBP)
Service Area: Service Delivery
Hours of Work: 37 Per week
What You’ll be doing:
This is a shore-based role working as part of the saltwater services team, supporting the repair, maintenance, and operation of waterfront assets used for vessel movement and docking. You’ll carry out routine planned maintenance, reactive repairs, and testing on mechanical systems, machinery, and high-volume saltwater pumps. As a Trainee Mechanical Fitter (Saltwater Systems), you will work in Confined Spaces and underground installations (CS training will be provided if required).
You must be prepared to be trained as a Lead pump fitter, progressing to Saltwater co-ordinating AP. You’ll also perform basic mechanical fault finding and rectification, providing detailed defect reports to the team manager or Chief engineer’s department representative.
You’ll Have:
* Completed an appropriate trade apprenticeship or Naval equivalent qualifications.
* The ability to read and understand technical/design drawings and maintenance manuals.
* Experience in heavy industrial plant or marine maintenance and repair (or exposure as a trainee).
* Confidence working at heights, in confined spaces, and flexibility due to tidal restraints.
* Ability to work independently following comprehensive training.
* Good communication skills for engaging with various stakeholders.
