Our client, a fantastic organisation based in Basildon, is looking for an experienced UK & European Road Transport Manager to join their team on a permanent basis. The role requires someone with strong people management skills, UK Transport legislation knowledge and the ability to optimise fleet utilisation and cost efficiency. You will also provide support to other sites with regards to guidance on fleet management, compliance and supplier relationships. The CPC Qualification and / or Ocean Freight Operations knowledge would also be a distinct advantage.
Responsibilities for this Transport Manager role include: -
* Managing and overseeing all daily UK road operations and European movements
* Ensure effective routing, scheduling and dispatch of company and subcontracted fleet – maximising fleet utilisation and load optimisations.
* Monitoring vehicle availability, maintenance and document compliance.
* Working closely with the Warehouse Manager to co-ordinate planning and loading / unloading.
* Proactively manage service disruptions and implement contingency plans.
* Ensuring full compliance with UK Transport legislation and regulatory bodies
* Maintain operator licence and audit readiness
* Monitoring driver hours, tachograph data and WTD adherence
* Implement and maintain H&S within transport operations
* Lead internal transport audits, oversee maintenance inspections and defect reporting
* Lead, motivate and develop the team of office staff and drivers, conducting regular performance reviews and development planning.
* Support recruitment, onboarding and training transport staff.
* Manage and negotiate with haulage subcontractors and transport suppliers and SLA’s
* Monitor and control transport budget, producing cost reports and identify cost savings.
* Act as escalation point for transport related queries and maintain strong working relationships with key customers.
As Transport Manager you will need: -
* At least 3 years proven experience managing and leading a UK road transport fleet operations team and strong knowledge of transport regulations and compliance.
* Strong commercial awareness and budget management.
* Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Strong IT skills - MS Office and transport systems.
* The CPC qualification and Ocean knowledge would be a distinct advantage.
In return for your experience and hard work, our client is offering a salary of £40,000 - £45,000pa along with a great benefits package.
The working hours are 9.00 – 5.30 Monday to Friday (Flexibility is required when workload demands)
