We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team at HMP Whitemoor, a high‑security male prison. We work Monday to Sunday as a supportive and driven family, working together to create a safe and nurturing environment. HMP Whitemoor runs like a self‑contained city; it takes hundreds of people to keep it functioning. As the Facilities Maintenance Team we are committed to the smooth and safe operation that impacts every prisoner, employee, visitor, and the wider community. As a Commercial Gas Engineer you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced and passionate colleagues from plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, cleaning and administration. Together we provide a safe and secure environment for all. This role is part of the Ministry of Justice business providing critical time‑bound services to HMPPS. You will be part of a mission to promote rehabilitation, positive change and making a difference. Full responsibilities include the safe operation and maintenance of commercial gas systems, reactive maintenance, fault finding, testing and commissioning of gas installations, and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
* CCN1 – Core domestic gas safety and relevant domestic appliance units.
* COCN1 – Core commercial gas safety certificate and relevant commercial units.
* Two years’ experience working as a heating engineer, combustion engineer or equivalent.
* Plumber qualifications to C&G 6035 (Plumbing), C&G 6189 (Plumbing & Heating) and NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent, or NVQ Level 2 with substantial similar experience.
* Familiarity with Water Supply Regulations and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.
* Experience in reactive maintenance, fault finding and resolution, installations, testing and commissioning.
