An opportunity has arisen to join Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Councils' Network Management Team with 4 new apprentice posts based within the Council's Network Management team.

We are currently looking to recruit Four Highway Asset and Drainage Apprentices within our Network Management team. This is an excellent opportunity that has arisen to join Rotherham Councils' nationally recognised award-winning Network Management team service.

The network management team cover a wide area; Maintaining Highways, Public Rights of Ways, Managing Streetworks and Permit applications, Providing parking services and maintaining and improving the Drainage Network.

We are looking for enthusiastic people to join our team and have a keen interest to learn new skills, acquire knowledge in a new discipline within a technical environment. They will need good time management and communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.

The positions available are;

Drainage Apprentice - One apprentice post within our drainage delivery team and will assist with carrying out cyclical maintenance and excavation repairs including installing new drainage assets. The position will be working out of our Hellaby depot delivering a frontline service, due to the nature of the work, you will need to be physically fit and prepared to work in all weathers. Health and Safety is a priority, and you will be trained to create and maintain a safe working environment. This is a technical position where the apprentice will attend college to carry out Construction course to gain a Level 3 Qualification.

Highways Assets – Two apprentices are needed to work within our Highways Asset team. These will be Technical and Administration positions. The work involves in a wide range of processes involving, Highway legal searches, Highway Asset management, Winter Maintenance, Highway adoptions, Condition surveys, Public Right of way inspections and general administration for the team. You will occasionally deal with customer enquiries over the phone and use a range of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, internet & e-mail.

These positions will mainly be working out of our head office at Riverside House in the Town Centre, although there will be occasions where you will be required to work from a different office or attend site meetings with one of our officers. These are administration positions where the apprentices will gain a Level 3 administration Qualification.

Street Lighting, Signs and Amenities – One apprentice position. We are looking to recruit a highways apprentice to work within the multi-disciplined streetlighting, signs and amenities delivery team. The successful applicant will join one of the existing teams where they will gain a wealth of knowledge and civils experience. The workload will be varied and of a physical nature including the installation, maintenance, and repair of our highway assets

The ideal candidates for our Apprentice positions will be motivated, enthusiastic and keen to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge within a technical environment. Great time management and communication skills are a must, as is the ability to get on well with others and work as part of a team, as well as being able to work independently on some tasks.

There is great scope for career development both within the Network Management team and wider within the Directorate and Council – we have hosted numerous apprentices within our team who have moved on to higher level roles in a variety of areas. Apprentices may also have the opportunity to move between disciplines and learn other aspects of work.
