About The Role
The Thinking Schools Academy Trust is seeking a professional, positive and people‑centred Regional Governance Professional to deliver high‑quality governance support across our Portsmouth schools and Central Trust. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about education, thrives in a fast‑paced environment, and enjoys working with people.
This is a varied and rewarding role where you will work closely with our Governors, Trustees, schools and colleagues across the Trust to ensure governance arrangements are effective, compliant and continuously improving. You will provide expert clerking, advice and guidance, while also contributing to Trust‑wide governance and compliance projects.
The role requires a confident professional who can build strong relationships, manage statutory processes with accuracy, and support governing boards to fulfil their responsibilities with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver a professional governance service to academies within your region, the Trust Board and subsidiary boards
* Provide a professional and compliant clerking service to various boards, panels and committees
* Provide timely, accurate agendas, papers, minutes and follow‑up actions in line with statutory and Trust requirements
* Lead or contribute to Trust‑wide governance and compliance projects, including training and development resources
* Analyse governance KPI data and support improvement planning through Governance Oversight Meetings
Please note: the role involves some evening meetings, regular travel within the Portsmouth area, and occasional travel to Kent (approximately three times per year).
Qualifications
* Has experience of clerking or supporting governing bodies (education sector experience desirable)
* Has experience working within regulatory frameworks and confidentiality
* Is highly organised, detail‑focused and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
* Can communicate clearly and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders
* Is confident providing advice and guidance, including in sensitive or formal panel settings

Working Arrangements
You can be based in Portsmouth with regular travel required across Trust sites and schools. Flexible working is offered, including 2‑3 days working from home to support a healthy work‑life balance.
