Overview
Public Health Consultant, Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. This is a senior leadership role within the Public Health team and across the council and wider network of partners. The role will provide strategic leadership alongside the Director of Public Health, Assistant Director and the existing Public Health Consultant, helping to deliver on the Live Well programme and other GM-wide initiatives.
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership in Public Health and across the council and wider system, including health improvement and tackling determinants of health.
* Lead on GM-wide programmes such as the Live Well programme, in collaboration with partners across Greater Manchester.
* Advise, guide, and provide strategic leadership in the Public Health team and across the organisation and wider network of partners.
* Contribute to senior leadership across the Public Health Senior Team and the Extended Leadership team of the council.
* Work with partners to improve health outcomes as identified in the Tameside Corporate Plan and Health & Wellbeing Strategy.
* Engage with the Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector and provide healthcare public health input into the healthcare system.
* Support the neighbourhoods agenda, including delivery of the Live Well programme, and ensure delivery of the right support in the right place at the right time.
* Develop the public health function more widely and participate in day-to-day operational activities of the Public Health team.
* Demonstrate passion for improving residents’ lives and shifting health outcomes in the borough.
About You
* A suitably qualified public health professional with strong problem solving, communication, political and technical skills.
* Interest in wider determinants of health, health improvement, and engagement with the VC FSE sector would be desirable.
* Strong relationship and partnership skills with the ability to work across cross-council and multiagency contexts.
* High intellectual rigour, political acumen, negotiation skills, and flexibility; ability to influence without direct authority.
* Commitment to developing the public health function and contributing to day-to-day operations, research interests, and professional development.
