Job Summary
We are offering an exciting opportunity within our in‑patient Intermediate Care general rehabilitation service in West Hertfordshire. We seek a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the OT team and wider multidisciplinary team at St Peter's Ward, Hemel Hempstead Hospital, where patients undergo rehabilitation following injury, illness, surgery or chronic disease.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver and maintain a high standard of rehabilitation for adults with physical dysfunction and disabilities.
* Work with a multidisciplinary team that includes physiotherapists, nurses, dietitians, rehabilitation assistants, speech and language therapists, and social workers.
* Participate in weekend therapy roster as required.
* Apply the occupational therapy process in a clinical setting, using functional assessment and activity analysis.
* Use evidence‑based practice and current best practice guidelines to design and implement treatment plans.
* Carry out cognitive assessments and adapt the treatment approach for patients with cognitive impairments.
* Create safe discharge plans in collaboration with external agencies to support ongoing community rehabilitation.
* Administer prescription of simple aids and equipment to enhance independent functioning.
* Maintain professional ethics, health legislation, risk assessment and management standards.
* Keep accurate, professional records of clinical activity and progress.
* Communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, with patients, families and the MDT.
Essential Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Desirable Qualifications
* Relevant postgraduate training in OT
* Membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists or a relevant special interest group
Essential Experience
* Experience applying the OT process in a clinical setting
* Use of functional assessment and activity analysis
* Relevant work experience from a variety of clinical placements
Desirable Experience
* Experience delegating to support staff
* Experience working as part of an MDT
Essential Skills & Knowledge
* Knowledge of current best practice in OT
* Ability to analyse, assess and implement treatment plans for a wide range of individuals with rehabilitation needs
* Ability to carry out cognitive assessments to inform treatment plans
* Awareness of how to adapt treatment approach for those with cognitive impairments
* Awareness of how to create safe discharge plans and work with external agencies
