The Senior Research Associate – Chemistry role at UNSW invites applicants to join a leading Australian research and teaching university. The position is based in Australia and is part of the ARC funded Industry Laureate project, focusing on advanced aptamer‑based sensor technology.

Compensation & Terms
* $127,000 – $150,000 plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
* Fixed term – 3 years
* Full‑time (35 hours per week)
Reporting
The role reports to Scientia Professor Justin Gooding and has no direct reports.
Specific Responsibilities
* Design, perform and supervise experiments in electrochemical evaluation of sensors.
* Supervise and mentor students and colleagues, fostering a collaborative research environment.
* Write and maintain laboratory notebooks detailing experimental procedures, observations and results.
* Complete experiments on time and provide timely analysis of results.
* Analyse data and write results suitable for publication in peer‑reviewed journals.
* Contribute to scientific paper authorship and reporting to researchers and industry partners.
* Prepare research proposal submissions to funding bodies and seek collaborations with industry partners.
* Coordinate research activities and contribute to project milestones.
* Present findings at national and international conferences.
* Adhere to UNSW Code of Conduct and Values.
* Identify and control hazards and risks related to health and safety in research activities.
Selection Criteria / Qualifications
* PhD specialising in electrochemistry.
* Proven commitment to developing aptamer‑based sensor technologies.
* Experience in developing and implementing electrochemical surface characterisation procedures.
* Extensive, reliable experience in precision electrochemical measurements.
* Experience in interfacial design and development of new surface chemistries.
* Track record of research excellence, including mentoring PhD and Honours students.
* Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
* Leadership and organisational skills in a research setting.
* Exceptional communication skills and effective networking.
* Team‑working ability, collaboration across disciplines, and relationship building.
* Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
* Commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values and relevant policies.
* Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to training.
