Job Summary
Following the establishment of the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee (NWJCC) on 1st April 2024 and a recent organisational restructure, we are seeking a Welsh Kidney Network Lead Nurse (NWJCC) to support our journey as a newly formed organisation. The NWJCC brings together the seven health boards in Wales to collaborate on commissioning across the country, improving health and care outcomes.
Main duties of the job
As Lead Nurse you will work within the Welsh Kidney Network (WKN) and play a pivotal role in representing the interests of kidney care nursing across Wales. You will lead the continuous development of the workforce, provide expert nursing advice within kidney services, and collaborate closely with the Network Manager and Clinical Lead for Quality and Patient Safety to ensure high standards of patient care are consistently and equitably delivered.
Key responsibilities include building strong relationships, improving communication across provider Health Boards, and contributing to a dynamic and supportive working environment. This post is a fixed‑term secondment for a minimum of 12 months and up to 36 months.

Person Specification
Essential – Qualifications and Knowledge
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration; educated to degree or equivalent level of experience and skills in renal care and dialysis.
* Educated to masters level or equivalent highly specialist qualification.
* In‑depth knowledge of the legislative and policy framework underpinning kidney care services.
* Clear understanding of diverse clinical area arrangements.
* High level knowledge of all current issues related to professional nursing practice.
* Knowledge of quality monitoring and patient safety initiatives across the UK.
Essential – Experience
* Post‑registration experience at a senior nursing level with clinical leadership.
* Experience developing and implementing governance frameworks to support service delivery and change.
* Proven ability to lead and deliver significant clinical changes.
* Experience working with senior management on strategic change implementation.
* Experience chairing and facilitating meetings in a clinically sensitive context.
* Experience in audit, research and evidence‑based pathway change.
Essential – Skills and Attributes
* Ability to analyse complex clinical issues, recommend actions and follow through.
* Ability to influence, motivate and lead groups of staff.
* Proven listening and empowerment skills, leading through change as part of a multidisciplinary team.
