Our client is seeking an experienced Senior HGV Fleet Manager to take full ownership of their fleet operations, ensuring every vehicle, trailer, and piece of equipment — including loader cranes — is maintained, compliant, and performing at its best.
This is a hands-on leadership role, managing both internal workshop teams and trusted external contractors to deliver a safe, efficient, and cost-effective fleet service.
Role Overview
In this position, you’ll be responsible for the full lifecycle of the fleet maintenance programme — from planning and scheduling through to completion and compliance checks. You’ll oversee day-to-day workshop operations, implement preventative maintenance routines, and ensure all statutory obligations are met in line with DVSA and operator licence requirements.
Main Responsibilities
Take the lead on all maintenance, repair, and servicing activities for the fleet, ensuring full legal and safety compliance.
Supervise internal workshop teams and coordinate external suppliers, overseeing parts procurement, scheduling, and quality of work.
Develop preventative maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and keep vehicles road-ready.
Manage defect reporting, investigate recurring issues, and introduce long-term corrective measures.
Oversee budget management for servicing, parts, and repairs, keeping costs within agreed parameters.
Lead, motivate, and develop workshop staff to achieve high performance and technical standards.
Collaborate closely with management, H&S, compliance, and transport teams to maintain consistent communication and performance.
Maintain accurate documentation for inspections, maintenance, and compliance records.
Skills & Experience
Demonstrable experience managing a large-scale HGV and trailer fleet (50+ vehicles), ideally including specialist lifting or crane equipment.
In-depth technical knowledge of HGV systems, hydraulics, and loader crane operations.
Proven ability to manage workshop operations and third-party maintenance providers.
Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
Strong understanding of transport regulations, operator licence obligations, and environmental standards.
Confident using fleet management systems and digital maintenance tools.
CPC in Transport Management is desirable but not essential.
