Job Description
The Opportunity
We are exclusively partnering with a high-growth, Private Equity-backed Energy start-up based in Cardiff. Following a successful fundraising round, the business is poised for a period of aggressive expansion.
This is not a "maintenance" role. We need a strategic architect to partner with the CEO. The mandate is clear: professionalize the finance function, drive organic profitability, and lead the financial due diligence for a series of targeted acquisitions over the next 36 months.
The Role:
You will be the financial conscience of the business. You will move fluidly between high-level strategic board presentations and the granular details of the P&L.
* Strategic Growth (M&A): Lead the financial modeling and integration for acquisitive growth targets while ensuring the core business continues to scale organically.
* Commercial Insight: Provide detailed scrutiny on margins and unit economics. You will challenge the commercial teams on pricing and profitability to ensure scalable growth.
* Cash & Capital: Take full ownership of cash allocation and working capital management, ensuring the business is funded for its growth milestones.
* Reporting Excellence: Oversee complex revenue recognition (ensuring compliance with evolving standards in the energy sector) and deliver board-packs that tell the story behind the numbers.
* Forecasting: Build robust rolling forecasts that can withstand PE investor scrutiny, shifting from reactive reporting to predictive modeling.
The Candidate:
* Qualified: ACA/ACCA/CIMA is essential.
* Sector Experience: Experience within Energy, Utilities, or Infrastructure is highly preferred due to the specific revenue recognition and regulatory complexities of the sector.
* Technical DNA: You must have a strong grip on technical accounting, specifically revenue recognition and margin analysis.
* PE/M&A Exposure: Experience navigating a PE exit, fundraising, or integrating acquisitions is distinct advantage.
Why Apply?
* Equity: A meaningful stake in the business with a clear path to exit/liquidity event.
* Impact: You will build the finance function from the ground up.
