Mechanical Craftsperson (Plumbing and Heating)

Due to reorganization within the Estates Department, vacancies are available for a Plumbing and Heating engineer.

Salary includes £30,722, 27 days holiday, bank holidays, and voluntary pension scheme.

The role is Monday to Friday, with opportunities for overtime and weekend work, including participation in an emergency on-call rota.

Working hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The SWFTCS Estates Department provides comprehensive maintenance, repair, and installation services for buildings, grounds, engineering services, and equipment across the SWFT Trust.

Main duties of the job

Work autonomously as a specialist Mechanical craftsperson (Plumbing and Heating), planning and responding to Planned Preventive Maintenance and emergency calls. The role requires concentration to diagnose complex faults and adaptability to handle interruptions and unplanned maintenance issues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Technical/Operational

* Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex equipment.
* Service and install systems including Water Systems, Gas appliances, HVAC, Steam Plants, Refrigeration, Medical Gas, Mechanical Pressure Systems, Oil-fired plants, Drainage, and Decontamination.
* Perform new work or manufacturing using relevant instruments and machinery independently.
* Analyze plant problems using Building Management Systems.
* Carry out emergency repairs and report necessary repairs.
* Conduct condition surveys and acceptance testing of new equipment.
* Act as a nominated competent person for statutory standards in trained areas.
* Participate as an emergency engineer in on-call systems.

Communication/Organizational

* Communicate effectively with clinical staff regarding engineering issues.
* Prioritize and plan workload, re-allocating duties as needed.
* Train junior staff in equipment use.
* Coordinate work with contractors and supervise staff.
* Contribute to maintenance procedures development.
* Manage spares and materials procurement using Trust purchase cards.
* Record work details using the CAFM system.

Qualifications

* Advanced craft in Plumbing
* Certificates in heating systems, Water Hygiene, HVAC, Unvented Hot Water Systems, Gas Safe Accreditation, Decontamination, Steam BOAS Accreditation, Health & Safety, Medical Gas (MGCP)


Experience

* Significant trade experience in commercial and domestic settings
* Experience working in regulated environments
* Fault finding and installation expertise


Skills

* Effective communication skills for technical and safety info
* Initiative and teamwork skills
* Excellent IT skills
* Organizational and prioritization skills
* Ability to plan and schedule using CAFM systems
